5 days to Macau and Hong Kong 奥门香港五天游

Day 1 (7 Jul 2015) – From Macau to Hong Kong

Arrived at Macau International Airport in the evening. Went to currency exchange counter to get some Macau Pataca (MOP) as I had not got any. MOP is hard to get in many countries. In fact, Hong Kong dollar can well be accepted in Macau. But I still preferred to have a little MOP in my pocket. To go to new Macau Maritime Terminal 外港新港澳码头, I took bus no. ‘API’ from the bus stop in front of airport. I got off at the first bus stop after the long Macau bridge and went directly to get a ferry ticket at new Macau Maritime Terminal. I paid HK$189 to get a ferry ticket at TurboJet counter. I could have just got the ferry ticket at HK$164 if I did not mind to wait for the ferry for about one and a half to two hours. The extra HK$35 enabled me to board the ferry within half an hour. This was new to me as I never encountered this before in other countries. The ferry trip took about 1 hour from Macau to Hong Kong.

After getting off from the ferry, I went to buy the ferry ticket from Hong Kong to Macau which I would need it to get back to Macau 3 days later with the hope that I would not need to queue for ticket and to wait long for boarding the ferry 3 days later. Then, I walked to Sheung Wan 上环 station – the nearby MTR station. Thanks for my MTR system map(http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/services/system_map.html) that I printed out before coming. I took the MTR heading to Chai Wan/柴湾 direction and got off at Causeway Bay 铜锣湾 station after four stops. I walked from C exit of the station for about 3 minutes and arrived at Yesinn@Causeway Bay hostel above NCB Bank in Nan Yip Building (http://www.yesinn.com/cwb/e_yesinncwb_direction.htm). It seemed that staying nearby MTR Hong Kong Island line 港岛线 would be much more convenient than staying at Kowloon.

Strolled around Causeway Bay 铜锣湾 in the evening.

Day 4 – Hong Kong to Macau

To take ferry from Hong Kong to Macau, I took MTR from Causeway Bay 铜锣湾 station heading to Kennedy Town 坚尼地城 direction and got off at Sheung Wan上环 station after four stops. Then, I walked to nearby Hong Kong-Macau terminal to board a ferry To Macau. The sea was rough around Hong Kong in that morning. The sea turbulence was expected as Hong Kong meteorological observatory issued typhoon signal #3 at that time. All the ferry trips were cancelled a few hours before that as the observatory issued typhoon signal #8 earlier. Perhaps I should consider myself ‘lucky’ as I still could take the ferry, though at rough sea in that morning.

In Macau, I stayed at Holiday hotel nearby Jin Hu Hospital 镜 湖 医 院. The hotel is in short distance to tourist spots such as Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral, Fortaleza do Monte, etc. To go to the hotel, I took bus no. 8. On the way, I stopped at Macau Fisherman's Wharf 渔人码头 which is near New Macau Maritime Terminal 靠近外港新港澳码头.

Day 5 – Macau

Took breakfast while watching morning news at a small restaurant leisurely, and bought some egg tarts for friends before taking bus no. 26 to Macau International Airport in Taipa. Calculated the time wrongly and ended up rushing to the airport at the last minute. Flew back home.
